Wild Deer and Turkey

MISSOURI HUNTING: With more than 1,000 areas totaling 965,722 acres under its management, the Missouri Department of Conservation provides ample hunting opportunities for residents and nonresidents alike. The Show-Me State's diverse habitats, ranging from bottomland hardwood swamp to tall grass prairie, support a marvelously diverse fauna.

Popular game animals include white-tailed deer, eastern wild turkey, bobwhite quail, ruffed grouse, pheasant, woodcock, mourning dove, rabbit, squirrel, waterfowl and furbearers. Hunting begins with spring turkey season on the Monday closest to April 21 and continues through March 31, when coyote season closes. Missouri hunters harvest about 200,000 deer and 60,000 turkeys annually. A Missouri whitetail holds the world record for non-typical antlers, scoring an astonishing 333 7/8 Boone and Crockett points. The state-record typical whitetail scored a hefty 205 points.
